Smart Outlets are used in a similar fashion, as they're great for turning lamps on and off. However, Smart outlet options extend control beyond just lights to make plug in electronics smart as well. Most Smart Outlets simply plug into an existing outlet. They also come as wall-mounted receptacles, which would require a little more work, such as calling an electrician like Totally Electric!
